Dr. Dre: 'Detox' Due In 'November Or December'
In his first interview in months, Dr. Dre says his years-in-the-works album "Detox" should be out before the end of the year.
"I'm just now -- over the last couple of months -- starting to feel that it's going to be right and it's something I can be proud of, and everybody is going to love it," the rapper/producer told USA Today. "In a perfect world, I'm shooting for a November or December release."
Dre is particularly enthused by the drum work on the new album, most of which is derived from live instrumentation. "We have an entirely new thing going with the drums that's incredible, and we're still developing that," he said. Guest appearances are on tap from Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and Nas, among others.
The artist reiterated his prior claim that after "Detox" is released, he will "become a hermit" in the studio while producing only up-and-coming acts. "All I want to do is sit in the studio with that person for a year and try to create another masterpiece," he said.
Dre's last album, 1999's "Dr. Dre 2001," has sold 7.23 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

They're still talking about making this album? Still in the studio? This shit should have been made years ago. Getting this album to come out is like asking your parents for permission to do something and they give you the "I'll think about it" routine. You know the thought is there but it will never actually happen. We're talking about making a fucking rap album and not building a new wonder of the world.

yeah because dr. dre went from og to ocd.
and he probably has several hundred songs locked up that will never see the light of day because he considers them not good enough and he doesn't need the money so there will never be a compilation or boxset. they will just never be heard.

Wow. I totally forgot about this album. It was 1999 when the Chronic 2001 record came out.
I guess it makes since to call this one "2010". I bet we see this released some time next year.

Snoop talks Detox reunion
Snoop Dogg talks about the recently released picture of him, Dre and Game sitting in the studio. Working on Detox -the long anticipated Dr. Dre album- to be exact. In an interview, Snoop Dogg said it was all about “Symbolizing the West Coast movement.” He also said they have been in the studio for about 2 weeks before Snoop came up with the idea of calling the Game. “I came and called Game up so he could come and be a part of this particular record that Dre had that was needing his vocals and needed his assistance on.” Snoop said.
He mentions that him and Dr. Dre have been working on the record every day “trying to go hard” with none other than Stat Quo and the D.O.C. He also said the picture, which is to be seen on twitpic, was in fact Dr. Dre’s idea. While Dr. Dre normally “won’t even let taking pictures of him.”

Re: Dr. Dre [FINALLY!] starts working on "Detox"
Hmm. Something doesn't add up. Stat Quo left Shady Aftermath after years of delays, Statlanta never saw the light of day. He's signed with another label now. Also, Game is still signed to Geffen, and Dre wouldn't produce anything for L.A.X. and he kind of just chalked it up as they were cool but not really on speaking terms.
I just listened to 2001 again the other day and you know if Dr. Dre puts out a CD you know it will be worth the constant delays. The fact that they're now recording material is interesting since according to Snoop last year the album was nearly done. Dre is just a perfectionist.

Ride wit us or get ran over!
Reminds me of the scene in Austin Powers with the steamroller.
Still, I'll be there day 1. Or when it leaks online. Probably both.

That's weird that Snoop was the one that had to get The Game on Detox.
You'd think that Dre would have wanted him on the project initially.
Too bad that Game and 50 had the falling out they did. The Game all over another Chronic album would have been amazing.
2001 was ruined to me because of Snoop and Kurupt. Snoop had the weakest verses on that cd and Kurupt just rhymed "bitch" with "bitch" over and over.

Dr. Dre Invites Jay-Z To Rap On Detox
Songs that leaked from Dr. Dre’s Detox recording sessions earlier this year revealed that Nas and R. Kelly are among the artists in consideration to appear on the long-awaited opus. And T.I., Lil Wayne and Drake are among the MCs believed to be ghost-writing for the album. But if Dre gets his way, a certain renowned Brooklyn rhymesmith will be pulling double-duty on Detox, both writing and delivering a guest verse.
“Well, actually, Jay-Z’s just been in the studio doing some writing,” Dre told MTV News on Friday while promoting his new Beats by Dr. Dre/ HP notebook collaboration. “Hopefully I’ll get him to perform on the record. Jay, come holler!”
Detox is the follow-up to Dre’s 2001 album and will complete the trilogy that began with 1992’s The Chronic.
In May, a snippet of a Detox track was released on a Dr. Pepper commercial that features Dre. The song, tentatively titled “Sh– Popped Off,” features production similar to a track that leaked in February with Tip referring Dre.’s vocals. “It’s the D.R. … Made the West side worldwide, no PR/ Gangsta-rap God, I’m the end-all, be-all/ California love from the Bloods to the C-Dogs.” Earlier this month, Dre told ABC News he’d like to finally put the finishing touches on Detox by the end of this year in time for a 2010 release. “Hopefully, I’ll get it done at the end of this year, and we can hear it next year,” the normally press-shy producer said.

I'll believe this when I see it. He could have built a mansion with his bare hands in the time that he has talked about making this album. We're talking about making a rap album and not building the Taj Mahal. This should be practice for Dre. I wish I could be this lazy in life.

The constant delays should not come as a surprise either, given how long it took for 2001 to finally come out. And given how most rap albums are delayed constantly as it is.
